Coffee County Man, Fort Stewart Soldier Arrested in Child Molestation Investigation

DOUGLAS, Ga. — A Douglas man serving in the U.S. Army has been arrested following a lengthy investigation into allegations of sexual offenses involving multiple victims, according to the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said the case began on Feb. 10, 2026, when a deputy responded to a residence in Douglas regarding reports of sexual assaults allegedly occurring between 2017 and 2026.

During the investigation, multiple victims came forward alleging they experienced unwanted sexual contact and inappropriate sexual advances from the suspect during their childhood, authorities said.

Investigators identified the suspect as 26-year-old Tyrone Barry Carter Jr. of Douglas.

According to the sheriff’s office, detectives learned Carter is currently serving in the United States Army and stationed at Fort Stewart.

Authorities said detectives developed probable cause to pursue criminal charges against Carter during the course of the investigation.

After an arrest warrant was issued, investigators coordinated with personnel at Fort Stewart, where Carter was detained before being transported to the Coffee County Jail.

Carter is currently charged with Aggravated Child Molestation under Georgia law.

Officials said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
