Man Arrested After Road Rage Shooting Investigation in Stephens County
Skyler Hulett

STEPHENS COUNTY, Ga. — A Toccoa man has been arrested following a road rage incident that led to reports of gunfire Monday afternoon, according to the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 3:15 p.m. May 4 to a 911 call reporting shots fired near Whispering Pines Drive and Foxglove Road. The caller, later identified as 23-year-old Skyler Hulett, initially told deputies another individual had fired shots from a vehicle near his home.

Investigators later determined that claim was false.

After reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing both parties, authorities concluded Hulett had discharged the firearm himself. Investigators said the incident began as a road rage encounter on Oak Valley Road and escalated when both men arrived at Hulett’s residence.

During a verbal altercation, Hulett allegedly retrieved a firearm and fired multiple rounds into the ground before pointing the weapon at the other man. A second confrontation occurred as the other individual attempted to leave, but no additional shots were fired.

A search warrant was executed on Hulett’s person and property, where investigators located multiple shell casings believed to match a rifle found in his truck.

Hulett was arrested and booked into the Stephens County Detention Center. He faces charges of aggravated assault, reckless conduct and making false statements. He is awaiting a bond hearing before a magistrate judge.

Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and are asking anyone with information to contact the sheriff’s office tip line at 706-886-7048.
