Traffic Stop Leads to Recovery of Stolen Vehicle, Driver Arrested in Jones County
JONES COUNTY, Ga. — A traffic stop for a seatbelt violation led to the recovery of a vehicle reported stolen and the arrest of a driver on multiple charges, according to the Jones County Sheriff’s Office.
On April 15, 2026, Lt. Kasey Carr conducted a traffic stop on Shurling Drive after observing a driver not wearing a seatbelt.
During the stop, Lt. Carr identified several irregularities with the vehicle, including a tampered ignition, missing VIN plates, and a license plate that did not match the vehicle, authorities said.
A K9 unit was called to the scene and conducted a free-air sniff, alerting to the presence of narcotics.
A probable cause search of the vehicle led to the discovery of marijuana weighing less than one ounce, syringes, and items containing suspected narcotics residue, according to investigators.
Further investigation revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Bibb County in 2025.
The driver, identified as Eric Marks, was arrested and charged with no insurance, seatbelt violation, and possession of marijuana less than one ounce.
The vehicle was impounded and secured.
Authorities said the investigation remains active and additional developments may follow.
