Florida Man Arrested in Twiggs County After Giving False Identity During Traffic Stop
TWIGGS COUNTY, Ga. — A Florida man was arrested after deputies say he provided a false identity during a traffic stop that revealed multiple outstanding warrants.
On March 31, 2026, deputies with the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Unit conducted a traffic stop on Highway 358 near Interstate 16 after a vehicle nearly struck a deputy while making an illegal U-turn onto an interstate on-ramp.
Authorities said the driver, later identified as Angelo Smith of Miami, initially provided a false name and date of birth. Deputies used facial recognition technology to confirm his true identity.
Further investigation revealed Smith had multiple outstanding felony warrants and was also wanted by his probation officer.
In addition to the warrants, Smith faces charges including driving without a valid license and transporting three unrestrained juveniles in the backseat.
Smith was taken into custody without incident.
The Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office credited deputies with proactive enforcement efforts that led to the arrest and helped ensure roadway safety.
