Most Wanted Suspect in 2025 Clayton County Murder Case Captured

CLAYTON COUNTY, Georgia – A suspect wanted in connection with a 2025 fatal shooting has been arrested following a coordinated multi-agency operation in Clayton County.

The case began on February 22, 2025, when Clayton County Police responded to a person shot call on Riverdale Road. Officers found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim later died from their injuries.

Detectives identified 23-year-old Semaj Trevionne Byrd as the suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest. He remained at large for over a year.

Sheriff Levon Allen placed Byrd at number five on the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office Most Wanted List and activated the Elite Fugitive Unit to assist in locating him.

On March 20, 2026, authorities located Byrd near Riverdale Road and Norman Boulevard. With assistance from the DeKalb County Police Department, Clayton County Police, and the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, deputies surrounded the area and took Byrd into custody without incident.

He was transported to the Clayton County Jail and is charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime.

Sheriff Allen credited the coordinated efforts of multiple agencies for successfully apprehending the suspect.
