New Adjutant General Appointed for Georgia National Guard
On March 15, 2024, Governor Brian P. Kemp announced the selection of Major General Richard “Dwayne” Wilson as the new Adjutant General of the Georgia National Guard, effective May 4, 2024. Major General Wilson’s appointment follows Major General Thomas Carden’s assignment to Deputy Commander of the United States Northern Command/Vice Commander of the United States Element, North American Aerospace Defense Command.
Governor Kemp congratulated Major General Wilson, stating, “On behalf of all Georgians, I want to congratulate Major General Wilson on this new position of leadership as he continues his service to our state and Armed Forces.”
Major General Wilson, who has served as the Assistant Adjutant General of the Georgia Army National Guard since October 2020, expressed gratitude for the opportunity. “I am honored to take on this role and remain committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the people of Georgia,” he said.
Colonel Jason Fryman has been selected to assume the role of Assistant Adjutant General for the Georgia Army National Guard, following Major General Wilson’s promotion. Governor Kemp extended his appreciation to Colonel Fryman, stating, “The entire Kemp family is grateful for Colonel Fryman’s continued willingness to serve in this new capacity.”
Major General Wilson’s military career spans several decades, including service in Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Joint Guardian, and New Dawn. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from North Georgia College and advanced degrees from Webster University and the United States Army War College.
Colonel Fryman, currently serving as Chief of Staff for the Georgia Army National Guard, brings extensive leadership experience to his new role. He holds multiple military decorations and advanced degrees from The University of North Georgia and the U.S. Army War College.
Major General Wilson and Colonel Fryman are poised to assume their new responsibilities, ensuring the readiness and effectiveness of the Georgia National Guard in both state and federal missions.
