Georgia Fugitive Sex Offender Captured in South Texas After Months on the Run
Clarence Mixon

NUECES COUNTY, TX — A monthslong interstate manhunt for a registered sex offender who fled Georgia has ended with an arrest in South Texas. Clarence W. Mixon, 46, was apprehended on Tuesday morning, February 24, 2026, by the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service.

Mixon, who was classified as an “absconded” fugitive by Georgia authorities, is now awaiting extradition back to Coffee County to face new felony charges.

The Manhunt: From Georgia to South Texas

The search for Mixon began in late September 2025, when detectives with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Unit discovered he had abandoned his registered residence in Broxton, Georgia, and fled the state.

  • The Investigation: Coffee County investigators tracked Mixon’s movement across several states before pinpointing his location in South Texas.
  • The Capture: After months of coordination between Georgia and Texas authorities, agents located Mixon in Nueces County. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the local jail.
  • Original Conviction: Mixon is a registered sex offender stemming from a 2004 Child Molestation conviction in Lowndes County, Georgia.

“We Have Friends Everywhere”

Coffee County Sheriff Fred Cole emphasized the reach of modern law enforcement in a statement following the arrest, warning other fugitives that crossing state lines will not protect them from justice.

“We have friends everywhere; if you run, we will find you and you will go to jail,” said Sheriff Cole. “Thank you to the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service in helping apprehend this sex offender.”

Upcoming Charges and Extradition

Mixon remains in custody at the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office as the extradition process begins. Upon his return to Georgia, he will face formal charges for:

  • Failure to Maintain Sex Offender Registration
  • Violation of Georgia’s Sex Offender Registry Requirements
