Police Seek Suspect After Man Shot Inside Decatur Library

DECATUR, Georgia – Decatur police are searching for a suspect after an adult male was shot inside the Decatur Library on Monday afternoon, leaving the victim hospitalized in critical condition.

Officers responded at approximately 5:10 p.m. on Feb. 2, 2026, to the Decatur Library, also known as the DeKalb County Public Library, located at 215 Sycamore St. in Decatur, GA, after reports of a person shot. Police located an adult male inside the library suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

Investigators with the Decatur Police Department assumed control of the case following the initial response. They reviewed surveillance video and interviewed witnesses.

Authorities identified the suspect as Medicus Brown, 44, of Decatur. Arrest warrants have been issued by the DeKalb County Magistrate Court charging Brown with aggravated assault with intent to murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Police released photos of the suspect. Anyone with information on Brown’s whereabouts is urged to call 911 or contact the Decatur Police Department at 404-373-6551.
