Man Found Shot Dead In Pickup Truck In Riverdale, Police Seek Public’s Help

RIVERDALE, Ga. – Riverdale police are investigating a homicide after a man was found shot to death inside a pickup truck Tuesday evening, and detectives are asking the public for help identifying those responsible.

According to the Riverdale Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call around 5:56 p.m. Jan. 21 in the area of 501 Roberts Drive. When officers arrived, they located an adult male inside a pickup truck suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified the victim as Jamal Payne, the father of five children. The department extended condolences to Payne’s family and loved ones.

In the hours following the shooting, officers attempted to locate possible suspects using a police helicopter and a K9 unit, but those efforts were unsuccessful, police said.

Investigators are now requesting assistance from the public. Police said Payne had no known ties to the City of Riverdale, and detectives are seeking security camera footage from the area around Roberts Drive and nearby streets, including Brookview Drive, Adel Lane, Chestnut Lane, and Rountree Road.

Authorities are asking residents and businesses to review any video recorded between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 21 and share footage that may be relevant to the investigation.

The Riverdale Police Department said it is dedicating all necessary resources to the case. Because the investigation is ongoing, no additional details have been released.
