Two Convicted In Stone Mountain Gas Station Shootout, Third Suspect Still Sought
DECATUR, Ga. – Two men have been convicted and sentenced in connection with a deadly gas station shootout in DeKalb County, while a third suspect remains at large, according to DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston.
A jury found Jeremy Collins, 29, guilty on Nov. 7, 2025, of felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in the shooting death of 20-year-old Keng Wilson. Jurors also convicted Joshua Ontario Simpson, 29, of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a first offender probationer, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
On Dec. 17, 2025, DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Nora Polk sentenced Collins to life in prison plus five years. Simpson was sentenced to 25 years, with 15 years to be served in custody and the remaining time on probation.
Prosecutors said Collins was free on bond while awaiting trial, despite the state’s opposition. He appeared at the start of the trial but failed to return to the courthouse during jury deliberations, the reading of the verdict, or sentencing. The court proceeded in his absence, as permitted by law. On Jan. 15, 2026, Collins was arrested in Jefferson County, Alabama, following an altercation with law enforcement. The arrest was carried out by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service.
The case stems from a July 8, 2021, shooting at a gas station on Rockbridge Road in Stone Mountain. Officers with the DeKalb County Police Department responded to a report of a person shot and found Wilson unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died.
Investigators said witnesses described a shootout involving Wilson and multiple shooters, along with a gold SUV seen at the scene. Surveillance video showed Wilson arriving at the gas station and later arguing with Simpson near his vehicle. During the confrontation, a gold SUV pulled in behind Wilson’s car. Prosecutors said the SUV driver distracted Wilson while Simpson removed a handgun and moved to block Wilson from leaving.
When Wilson reached for a firearm, Collins, Simpson, and an unidentified third suspect opened fire, striking Wilson multiple times, according to prosecutors. Collins, the unidentified shooter, and the SUV fled to a nearby apartment complex.
The SUV driver later identified Simpson, who was arrested in California on Aug. 2, 2021. After images of the remaining suspects were released in 2023, a tip to the district attorney’s office led to Collins’ identification and his arrest in Alabama on Aug. 22, 2023.
Authorities say the third suspect has not been identified. Surveillance images show the person wearing a white long-sleeved shirt with a large graphic, blue jeans, and a patterned bucket hat. The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Parker Aziz, with assistance from Senior Assistant District Attorney Roland Turner, investigator Lisa Bishop, and supervising victim advocate Millicent Taylor. Detective Evans of the DeKalb County Police Department led the initial investigation.
