Chamblee Police Sergeant Dies At 42 After Years Of Dedicated Service

CHAMBLEE, Georgia – The Chamblee Police Department is mourning the loss of Sergeant Loc D. Tran, who passed away Friday, January 16, 2026, at the age of 42 due to medical complications.

Sergeant Tran devoted his life to service, both in uniform overseas and here at home. He proudly served in the United States Army from July 2002 to July 2007 as an Army Pharmacy Specialist, providing medical and pharmaceutical care in troop medical clinics, combat support hospitals, and medical centers for both military personnel and civilians. He completed his service with the rank of Specialist (E-4).

After his military service, Tran continued his commitment to public service, working with the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office before graduating from the Piedmont Technical College Police Academy in December 2010. Just weeks later, on December 20, 2010, he began his law enforcement career with the Chamblee Police Department.

Over more than 15 years with Chamblee PD, Sergeant Tran steadily rose through the ranks, serving as a Detective, then a Uniform Division Sergeant, and most recently as a Criminal Investigations Sergeant, a position he was promoted to in May 2024. Throughout his career, he was known for leading with respect, dignity, and compassion, earning the admiration of both his fellow officers and the community he served.

Chief Michael G. Dieppa said Sergeant Tran embodied what it truly means to protect and serve, noting that his dedication and character left a lasting mark on the department and the city of Chamblee.

Sergeant Tran is remembered as someone who always put others first. Those who knew him describe him as kind-hearted, humble, and deeply committed to helping people in need. His loss is being felt across the law enforcement community and beyond.

He is survived by his mother, Monghoa Tran; his brother, Stephen Tran; his sister, Theresa Tran; other loving relatives; close friends; and his extended Chamblee Police Department family.

DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston also issued a statement honoring Sergeant Tran’s life and service, describing him as someone whose kindness and spirit touched everyone he met. She extended condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues, noting that his memory will continue to be a source of comfort to those who knew him.

The Chamblee Police Department expressed its deepest sympathies to the Tran family and pledged to honor Sergeant Tran’s legacy of service, compassion, and integrity.
