Multiple Shootings and One Fatal Stabbing Reported Across Atlanta Over Busy Weekend
ATLANTA, GA – Atlanta police investigated a string of violent incidents across the city over the Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend, leaving several people injured and one woman dead.
Early Saturday morning, January 17, at about 2:00 a.m., officers responded to reports of multiple people shot at 421 Edgewood Avenue SE. At the scene, officers found three men suffering from gunshot wounds. A 30-year-old man was shot in the right foot, a 27-year-old man was shot in the left arm, and a 21-year-old man sustained gunshot wounds to his left shoulder and ankle. All three victims were alert and breathing and were transported to a hospital for treatment. Investigators say a large physical altercation involving several people escalated into gunfire. The Atlanta Police Department Major Crimes Response Team is investigating.
About 30 minutes later, at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers were called to 1181 United Avenue SE for another shooting. A 46-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was conscious and transported to the hospital. The Major Crimes Response Team is also handling this investigation.
Later Saturday morning, at approximately 9:03 a.m., officers responded to a stabbing at 1812 Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway NW. Police found a 57-year-old woman suffering from apparent stab wounds. She was unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. Detectives with the Homicide Unit are working to determine what led up to the fatal attack.
On Sunday, January 18, around 4:07 p.m., officers responded to a shooting at 585 McWilliams Road SE. A 53-year-old woman was found with a gunshot wound to her abdomen. She was alert and breathing and was transported to the hospital for treatment. The Aggravated Assault Unit is investigating.
The violence continued into Monday afternoon. On January 19, at approximately 4:37 p.m., Atlanta Police Zone 1 officers responded to a report of a shooting near 3086 Middleton Road NW. Officers located a 26-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was conscious when transported to the hospital. The Aggravated Assault Unit is investigating that case as well.
All of the incidents remain under investigation, and police have not released suspect information or details on possible connections between the cases.
