Female Inmate Death Under Investigation at Bibb County Law Enforcement Center
MACON, Georgia – Investigators with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death of an inmate who was found unresponsive inside her cell Sunday afternoon at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.
According to officials, corrections deputies discovered the inmate at approximately 2:08 p.m. on January 18, 2026. Medical staff immediately began life-saving measures until Emergency Medical Services arrived. The inmate was transported by ambulance to Atrium Health Navicent for further treatment.
Medical staff later notified investigators that the inmate, identified as 55-year-old Rachel Renee Robinson, was pronounced deceased just before 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening. Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones confirmed that Robinson’s next of kin has been notified.
Robinson had been housed at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center following her arrest on November 22, 2025, by the Atrium Health Navicent Police Department on a charge of battery against a law enforcement officer.
Because the death occurred while Robinson was in custody, an autopsy will be conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. In addition, Internal Affairs investigators with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Office of Professional Standards are conducting a separate review.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office stated it extends its sympathies to Robinson’s family and others affected by her death. The investigation remains ongoing.
