Gwinnett Police Arrest Man in Child’s Shooting Death, Cite Failure to Secure Firearm
GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. – The Gwinnett County Police Department Homicide Unit has arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with the shooting death of a child earlier this month.
On January 8, 2026, officers were dispatched to the 6000 block of Green Hill Drive regarding an incident involving two juveniles. Investigators determined that one of the juveniles had been shot and later died from the injuries.
According to police, the juveniles located a firearm and contacted their older brother, Almauri Drummond, 21, of Forest Park, to notify him. Investigators say the juveniles later sent Drummond a video showing them firing the weapon in their backyard. Police allege Drummond instructed the juveniles only to hide the firearm from their father and did not notify an adult, secure the weapon, or remove it from the children’s access.
As a result of the investigation, Drummond was arrested and charged with Cruelty to Children in the Second Degree, Murder in the Second Degree, and Reckless Conduct.
Police emphasized that firearm ownership carries serious responsibility, noting that when weapons are not properly stored and secured from children, the consequences can be tragic and may lead to criminal charges.
