Bibb County Deputies, K-9 Rescue Missing Senior Near Retention Pond

MACON, Ga. – Deputies with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, along with K-9 Deputy Rex, located a missing senior citizen who had wandered away from a local personal care home.

According to Sgt. George Witherspoon, the woman suffers from memory loss and was unfamiliar with the area. She was reported missing after leaving the facility. Multiple units, including Uniform Patrol, SRT/K-9 Interdiction, CID Investigators, and the CID Gang Unit, conducted an extensive block-by-block search.

EOD K-9 Rex, one of the department’s newest K-9s, quickly tracked the woman to the edge of a nearby retention pond. Deputies found her cold, wet, and barefoot. Emergency medical services were called, and she was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

The sheriff’s office praised the teamwork displayed during the search and gave special recognition to K-9 Rex and his handler, SRT/EOD Deputy Seth Vonderheuvel, for their role in the safe recovery of the senior.
