Thomas County Man Arrested After Severely Malnourished Dogs Found at His Home
On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, Thomas County Sheriff’s Investigators were conducting sex offender residency verifications when they discovered a disturbing case of animal cruelty at a residence located at 14359 U.S. Highway 319 North.
Deputies found five pit bulls and puppies in a severe state of malnutrition, confined to a metal kennel outside the home. The property was occupied by 43-year-old Recarda Hart, a registered sex offender.
Investigators learned that one puppy from the same litter had already died and had been partially eaten by the surviving dogs in the kennel.
The following day, October 29, 2025, Hart was arrested and charged with multiple counts of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. The remaining dogs were removed by Thomas County Animal Services and are now receiving care.
The case remains under investigation by the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office.
