Jones County Deputies Rescue Children from Unsafe Home; Two Arrested

Jones County, GA – On September 29, 2025, the Jones County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) with a welfare check that uncovered disturbing living conditions at a residence in Jones County.
Deputies entering the home found it in an extremely unsanitary and unsafe state. Trash, urine, and feces covered the floors, creating an environment unfit for anyone—especially children.
Inside the home, deputies discovered three small children, ages 4, 3, and 1. According to investigators, the children appeared unwashed, emitted a strong odor, and showed visible signs of neglect. Two of the children were suffering from ringworm and had open sores. A 12-year-old child was also living in the home under the same conditions.
Deputies identified Autumn Lane and Crystal Lane as the individuals responsible for the children’s care. Both were taken into custody and charged with Cruelty to Children in the 2nd Degree.
In a statement, the Jones County Sheriff’s Office reaffirmed its stance against child neglect. “The Jones County Sheriff’s Office does not condone child abuse or neglect in any form. We remain committed to working alongside DFCS and our community partners to ensure children are safe and protected.”
The children have since been placed in the care of DFCS, where they will receive medical evaluations and support services.
Authorities say the case remains under investigation.
