Macon-Bibb County Awards Million Contract for Road Paving

MACON, Ga.—The Macon-Bibb County Commissioners unanimously approved a contract on Tuesday to hire Professional Paving Services, LLC for a new package of road paving and resurfacing, a part of the “Paving the Way” program.

This is the second package of roads to be awarded, covering 8.83 miles across 49 segments. The contract, valued at $1,985,581.70, was awarded to the local company, which submitted the lowest bid among ten respondents. The project is funded by the Georgia Department of Transportation’s Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG) program and does not require a local match.

“In two weeks, we’ve awarded contracts to repave nearly 20 miles, and that work is set to begin very soon,” said Mayor Lester Miller. He added that the next rounds of improvements are already being prepared.

The roads were selected for repaving based on a Roadbotics study that rated all 1,100 miles of county-owned paved roads. According to the Mayor, with the completion of these 36.18 miles of roads (including both packages), nearly all roads rated 3 and above will have been improved.

A more recent StreetScan study has identified an additional 459 roads, totaling almost 130 miles, for future paving. Funding for these projects will come from the General Fund, LMIG, and SPLOST.

Work on the new 49 road segments is expected to begin in the next couple of weeks.
