Shooting in Crawfordville Leads to Arrest After Multi-County Search

On Sunday, July 27, 2025, at approximately 7:59 p.m., the Taliaferro County Sheriff’s Office 911 Center received a report of a shooting near the 200 block of Park Street at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Crawfordville, Georgia.
Deputies, first responders, and Wilkes County EMS arrived on scene and located a male victim with a gunshot wound to the foot. The victim was treated on-site and transported to a hospital in Augusta.
Witnesses identified the suspect as Tamarcus Callaway of Thomson, Georgia. He reportedly fled in a burgundy Nissan Altima. A BOLO was issued, and McDuffie County deputies located the vehicle at approximately 8:25 p.m., though the suspect initially fled on foot.
At 8:55 p.m., Taliaferro County Sheriff Tia McWilliams received a Facebook Messenger call from the suspect’s father, Tamarcus Callaway Sr. The father was encouraged to have his son surrender.
At approximately 9:07 p.m., Tamarcus Harry Callaway Jr. was taken into custody by the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office and transported to the McDuffie County Jail.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been requested to assist with the ongoing investigation.
