Man Charged with Murder in Columbus Shooting Death of Girlfriend

Jimmie Thomas, 60, has been arrested and charged with Murder and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime after his girlfriend, Mozelle Barbee, 53, was found deceased from a gunshot wound in the 400 block of 20th Avenue on Saturday, July 6, 2025.

Columbus Police Officers responded to a welfare check at approximately 5:27 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Barbee, and EMS personnel were unable to resuscitate her.

The Violent Crimes Unit was called to lead the investigation. Preliminary findings identified Thomas, the victim’s boyfriend, as the suspect. He was subsequently taken into custody.
