Train Derailment in Powersville, Georgia, Under Investigation

A Norfolk Southern train derailed in Powersville, Georgia, on Saturday morning, June 28, 2025, just before 7 AM. First responders from Peach County and Byron arrived to find approximately 22 rail cars involved in the incident, which occurred between Byron and Fort Valley.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported. According to Norfolk Southern personnel who were already on scene, none of the involved cars were carrying hazardous materials or chemicals.
Authorities stated that the derailment was caused by heavy rain experienced in the last couple of days.
As cleanup efforts are underway, Powersville Road will be open to local traffic only between GA 247 Conn and Highway 49 for the next few days. Commuters are advised to use alternate routes due to the inconvenience.
