Woman Shot by East Point Police After Charging at Officer with Knife

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Saturday, March 8, 2025, in East Point.

At approximately 5:00 p.m., officers from the East Point Police Department responded to the 2400 block of Stone Road after receiving a report of a woman expressing suicidal thoughts. Upon arrival, officers made contact with 27-year-old Trauneycia Langley, who was in distress and stated she wanted to harm herself.

Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and encouraged Langley to voluntarily submit to a mental evaluation. However, she became increasingly agitated and combative. One officer deployed a Taser, but it was ineffective. Langley then grabbed a knife and charged toward an officer, prompting the officer to fire her handgun, striking Langley.

Officers rendered aid at the scene before Langley was transported to a local hospital for treatment. No officers were injured.

The GBI is conducting an independent investigation. Once complete, the case will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
