Suspect Wounded After Firing at Columbus Officer in Early Morning Shooting

An officer-involved shooting took place in Columbus, GA, early Thursday, February 6, 2025, in the area of 42nd Street and Lakewood Drive.

Columbus Police officers responded to a domestic dispute at approximately 1:18 a.m. Upon arrival, a male suspect fired at one of the officers. The officer returned fire, striking the suspect.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable condition. In accordance with protocol, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has been notified and will lead the investigation. The Columbus Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards will also conduct an internal review.

The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigations.
