SWAT Team Arrests Dalton Man After Domestic Dispute Leads to Gunfire and Standoff

On Saturday night, January 18, 2025, 29-year-old Mark Lee Sims was arrested after a domestic violence situation led to gunfire at an apartment in Dalton. Sims was taken into custody following a nearly two-hour standoff with the assistance of the Georgia State Patrol’s SWAT team.

At approximately 7:20 PM, the Dalton Police Department responded to a report of gunfire at 2250 Park Canyon Drive. According to initial information, Sims had been involved in a physical altercation with a woman at the apartment. During the incident, Sims allegedly threatened the woman with a firearm and fired at least one shot before she managed to escape. The woman called 911 from a nearby apartment to report the incident.

When officers arrived, Sims was alone inside the apartment and refused to exit. Due to the armed and barricaded situation, the Dalton Police Department requested assistance from the Georgia State Patrol’s SWAT team, who arrived at the scene around 8:20 PM. After negotiating with Sims, the SWAT team entered the apartment just after 9:00 PM and arrested him without incident.

Sims faces charges including Aggravated Assault with a Gun, Battery Family Violence, and additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues. He is currently incarcerated at the Whitfield County Jail.
