Officer Injured, Suspect Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting in Roswell

The Roswell Police Department has requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Roswell on January 17, 2025.

The incident took place in the 500 block of Ansley Drive during the execution of search and arrest warrants stemming from a December 31 incident. The suspect in question had fired a handgun into the air after being asked to leave a party. Roswell detectives secured warrants for the suspect’s arrest on charges of reckless conduct, discharge of firearms on another’s property, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Given the suspect’s extensive and violent criminal history, including multiple weapons offenses, North Fulton SWAT led the operation to apprehend him.

As officers served the warrants, a suspect fled out the back of the residence and opened fire on officers, striking one SWAT officer in the chest. The officer’s ballistic vest absorbed most of the impact, though shrapnel caused additional injuries. The officer is expected to make a full recovery.

The officer returned fire, fatally striking the suspect, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Per department policy, the GBI has taken over the investigation to ensure an independent review of the incident. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
