Two Dead, One Officer Injured in Officer-Involved Shooting in Remerton, GA
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an investigation at the request of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office following an officer-involved shooting in Remerton, Georgia, that resulted in the deaths of two men and left one officer injured.
Preliminary information indicates that the incident occurred on November 1, 2024, at approximately 1:30 a.m. Four Lowndes County Sheriff’s deputies were working off-duty assignments outside various bars in the area when an argument erupted outside one of the establishments, escalating into a shootout between two individuals not involving law enforcement. This shooting prompted an initial response from the deputies.
Following the initial confrontation, additional shots were fired, leading to the response of two more deputies. During this subsequent exchange, one deputy was shot and transported to a local hospital. Fortunately, he is expected to survive due to a vest that prevented more severe injury.
Two civilian men were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities recovered weapons at both locations connected to the incident.
Autopsies on the deceased individuals will be performed by a GBI medical examiner. The GBI is continuing its independent investigation, and upon completion, the case file will be submitted to the Southern Judicial Circuit District Attorney for review.
