U.S. Marshals Capture Teen Suspect in 2023 Fatal Shooting in Savannah

U.S. Marshals arrested 18-year-old Malikye Jalyn Heyward in connection with the fatal shooting that occurred on September 7, 2023, at the intersection of W. 32nd Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The arrest took place on October 28.

“I want to thank both our investigators and the U.S. Marshals,” said Lenny B. Gunther, Savannah Police Chief. “Our officers and the marshal’s tenacity and professionalism in this case is laudable.”

On the night of the shooting, Savannah Police officers responded to the scene and found an unconscious victim lying on the ground. The individual later died from injuries sustained during the incident at a local hospital. Heyward has since been charged with murder and aggravated assault. The investigation continues as authorities seek further information related to the case.
