Banks County Sheriff’s Office Conducts Active Attack Response Training

The Banks County Sheriff’s Office hosted an integrated training event on October 14, 2024, at Grove Level Baptist Church, also known as “The Grove,” in Maysville. This essential training aimed to improve collaboration among law enforcement, fire services, dispatch, and emergency medical services (EMS) during active attack situations.

Participants focused on equipping law enforcement officers with vital medical skills in accordance with Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) guidelines. These skills are designed for use at the point of injury (POI), significantly enhancing the survival chances of victims during critical incidents.

The training introduced a model framework for coordinating responses among law enforcement, fire, and EMS personnel through the innovative rescue task force concept. This comprehensive course was tailored to boost the safety and survivability of victims while promoting greater effectiveness and resource integration among first responders.

Instructors included personnel from the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, along with representatives from the Banks County Sheriff’s Office, Gainesville Police Department, Hall County Sheriff’s Office, White County Sheriff’s Office, West Jackson Fire Department, Gainesville Fire Department, Barrow County Sheriff’s Office, and Barrow County Fire Department. Air Life Georgia 2 also participated, providing a demonstration that showcased the critical role of air medical support in emergency response.

Participating organizations encompassed the Banks County Sheriff’s Office, Banks County Fire & EMS, Banks County Emergency Management Agency & E-911, Georgia State Patrol, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, West Jackson Fire Department, Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Gainesville Police Department, Gainesville Fire Department, Jefferson Police Department, Commerce Police Department, and White County Sheriff’s Office.

Additionally, students from Piedmont University and the University of North Georgia served as role players during the training, contributing significantly to the event’s success. This training represents a crucial step in ensuring community safety and preparedness in potential active attack scenarios.
