Atlanta Conducts Air Quality Tests Amid Smoke from Conyers Fire

The City of Atlanta has issued an update on air quality testing following reports of smoke from the Conyers, Georgia fire reaching areas as far as East Point, College Park, DeKalb County, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department (AFRD) has been actively testing for volatile organic compounds, including chlorine, hydrogen sulfide, oxygen, and carbon monoxide levels.

According to AFRD, no immediate life safety issues have been identified, and the earlier haze is beginning to clear. Handheld monitors and drones are being used for testing, with results showing all levels within acceptable limits.

Tests have been conducted from Candler Road to Moreland Avenue and will continue throughout Atlanta. The city has also requested additional testing from the Environmental Protection Division (EPD) and is awaiting guidance from the Fulton County Health Department and Georgia Department of Public Health.

Residents concerned about air quality are advised to stay indoors, close windows and doors, and turn off ventilation systems until further notice.
