GBI Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting in Newnan Following Domestic Dispute

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Newnan at the request of the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office. Ronald West, 42, of Newnan, was shot and injured during the incident. No deputies were harmed.

On September 19, 2024, at around 11:45 p.m., deputies responded to a domestic dispute on Hawthorne Drive involving West and his parents. When officers arrived, West threatened to shoot them and then rushed toward the deputies with an object, attempting to stab one of them in the vest. As the deputies moved away, one officer fired his handgun, striking West.

Deputies administered first aid at the scene, and West was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The GBI is conducting an independent investigation into the incident.
