Watchful Neighbor Helps Athens Police Arrest Suspected Car Prowler

On the morning of September 7th, a neighbor noticed a man attempting to enter several vehicles on Herring Street in Athens and called 911. Athens-Clarke County officers responded and made contact with 51-year-old Jeffrey Thomas of Athens, who was still in the area. After speaking with other residents, officers reviewed video footage that showed Thomas near the vehicles. Witnesses also positively identified him as the individual pulling on car door handles.

Thomas was taken into custody and charged with Loitering and Prowling. Among the items in his possession were a phone and a pair of AirPods, which were placed into evidence. Authorities are continuing the investigation into how Thomas obtained the property in his possession.

“Watchful residents for the win again! With the help of the witnesses, a habitual entering auto suspect was apprehended,” a statement read.
