Unidentified Skeletal Remains Found in Conyers, Georgia in 2010 Remain a Mystery

In December 2010, skeletal remains were discovered near a vacant house in Conyers, Georgia. Investigators found a hose tied into a noose positioned directly above the remains and a chair overturned beside it, leading to the initial belief that no foul play was involved. The medical examiner estimated the remains belonged to a male aged between 15 and 27 years old, approximately 5′ 6″ in height. No identifying information was found with the remains.

The case, known as Rockdale County John Doe (2010), went cold despite efforts to identify the individual. In 2011, the details were entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) as UP8689.

In 2023, the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office submitted forensic evidence to Othram’s laboratory in The Woodlands, Texas. Othram scientists will use Forensic Grade Genome Sequencing® to develop a comprehensive DNA profile. The in-house forensic genetic genealogy team will then perform records research and genetic genealogy to generate new leads. A DNASolves crowdfund has been established to cover casework costs.
