Glynn County Police and GBI Officers Team Up to Capture Former News Reporter Turned Sexual Child Predator
The combined work of the Glynn County Police Department (GCPD) and Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force has led to the arrest of a Glynn County man for distribution and possession of child pornography.
The investigation began earlier this year when ICAC alerted GCPD’s Criminal Investigation Division of a photograph being uploaded to social media showing a minor in a lewd position. GCPD investigators were able to track down the physical address where the picture was uploaded. Investigators then made contact with the resident of the home, Lawrence “Larry” Hobbs of St. Simons Island and obtained warrants to search Hobbs’ home.
On Thursday, August 8, 2024, GCPD investigators interviewed Hobbs, during which he confessed to crimes related to possession and distribution of child pornography. Hobbs is now charged with two felonies: (1) Sexual Exploitation of Children (Possession) and (2) Sexual Exploitation of Children (Distribution).
Hobbs is a former news reporter for The Brunswick News.
