Murder Suspect Captured in North Carolina Nearly 10 Months After Fatal Rome Shooting

ROME, Ga. – A man wanted in connection with the 2025 fatal shooting of an 18-year-old in Rome has been captured in North Carolina, according to the Rome Police Department.

23-year-old Treveonsay Trejion Burge was taken into custody in Cleveland County, North Carolina, after being sought in connection with the Oct. 21, 2025, shooting death of 18-year-old Adam Taylor Hernandez.

Burge is charged with felony murder and aggravated assault in Hernandez’s death.

Authorities said Burge is currently being held without bond at the Cleveland County Detention Center in Shelby, North Carolina. In addition to the Georgia murder charges, he also faces separate charges related to his arrest in North Carolina.

The Rome Police Department credited the arrest to the coordinated efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies that continued to pursue the case after the homicide.

Officials thanked the U.S. Marshals Service, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Shelby Police Department for their assistance in locating and apprehending Burge.

He is facing the following charges in North Carolina: Possession of Marijuana, Trafficking Opium/Heroin, Resisting Public Officer and 2 counts of Weapons of Mass Destruction.

Burge will remain in custody pending extradition proceedings to return him to Georgia to face the murder charges.
