Two Men Arrested in Drive-By Shooting Targeting Cairo City Manager During UTV Ride

CAIRO, Ga. – Two south Georgia men have been arrested in connection with the June shooting that targeted the city manager of Cairo while he was sitting in a utility terrain vehicle alongside a rural roadway, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The GBI announced the arrests of 19-year-old Ja’Zavion Rayshad Deyounks of Pelham and 28-year-old Todd Richard Gibbs of Cairo on charges of aggravated assault.

Both men were arrested July 30 and booked into the Grady County Jail with assistance from the Grady County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation stems from a shooting reported at approximately 10 p.m. on June 9 along Aldredge Road near Highway 188 in Grady County.

According to investigators, Cairo City Manager Booker Gainor had pulled his utility terrain vehicle to the side of the road to make a phone call when a dark-colored sedan approached from behind.

Gainor reported that multiple gunshots were fired from the direction of the sedan.

Authorities said Gainor was able to drive away on the UTV without being struck. Neither he nor the vehicle was damaged during the shooting.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation continues to investigate the case.

Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be submitted to the South Georgia Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review and possible prosecution.
