Metro Atlanta Pair Charged in Franklin County Livestock Auction Vehicle Theft Ring

CARNESVILLE, Ga. – Two Metro Atlanta residents have been charged in connection with a series of vehicle break-ins at the Franklin County Livestock Sale Barn that investigators say occurred over an 18-month period.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office announced Aug. 4 that its Criminal Investigations Division obtained arrest warrants for Makeshia Lewis and Monterio Patrick on charges related to multiple entering auto incidents at the Franklin County Livestock facility.

According to investigators, the suspects allegedly traveled to the livestock auctions in rental vehicles displaying falsified license plates before targeting unattended vehicles in the parking area.

Authorities said the pair typically remained at the sale barn for more than an hour while auctions were underway, giving them time to search unlocked cars and trucks.

Investigators believe the suspects specifically targeted cash, avoiding items that could be easily traced back to them.

Sheriff’s officials credited the Criminal Investigations Division with identifying the suspects after an extensive investigation.

The investigation remains active, and authorities said additional charges may be filed. Investigators are also working to identify other individuals who may have participated in the theft ring.

The Sheriff’s Office used the case to remind residents to lock their vehicles and avoid leaving valuables inside.

“This crew skipped any vehicle as soon as they saw that the doors were locked,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “Please let this be a reminder to everyone. Lock your vehicles when unattended and don’t leave valuables inside.”
