Georgia Drug Task Force Operation Leads to Arrests on Meth, Elder Exploitation Charges
HIAWASSEE, Ga. – A joint law enforcement operation in Towns County resulted in the arrests of two individuals facing multiple felony charges, including drug trafficking and elder exploitation offenses, authorities announced Friday.
The operation was conducted July 31 by the Towns County Sheriff’s Office, the Hiawassee Police Department and the joint S.C.O.U.T. Task Force as part of an ongoing effort to combat drug-related crime and protect the community.
According to the Towns County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation resulted in two arrests on charges that include:
- Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute
- Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute
- Felony Theft by Taking involving property valued at more than $1,500
- Manufacturing Marijuana
- Elder Exploitation
- Possession of Drug-Related Objects
Investigators said additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.
The sheriff’s office did not release the names of those arrested.
Sheriff Anthony Coleman credited members of the Towns County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, Uniform Patrol Division and the Hiawassee Police Department for their work during the operation.
“This successful operation reflects the dedication and teamwork of our law enforcement agencies as we continue to combat drug trafficking and protect our vulnerable populations,” Coleman said.
Authorities said the Towns County Sheriff’s Office will continue working with local law enforcement partners to target drug trafficking and other criminal activity throughout the county.
