Jones County Deputies Report Multiple Juvenile Incidents Ahead of New School Year

JONES COUNTY, Ga. – The Jones County Sheriff’s Office is urging parents to stay engaged with their children’s activities after deputies responded to several incidents involving juveniles during the final week of summer break.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies handled multiple cases over the past week involving property damage, alcohol-related offenses and unsafe operation of off-road vehicles.

On Thursday, Deputy Humphries detained two juvenile boys, ages 14 and 15, who are accused of overturning and damaging a vending machine at the Vallant Bank Recreation Complex.

On Sunday, Deputies Tarver and Hammond arrested a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old on charges of Interference with Custody and Contributing to the Delinquency of Minors. Investigators said the two men picked up two teenage girls and provided them with alcohol.

The Sheriff’s Office also reported receiving several complaints about juveniles riding four-wheelers and side-by-side utility vehicles on and around Kent Drive and Jones Crossing.

On Friday, Deputy Hammond, with assistance from Norfolk Southern Railroad Police, located several of the juveniles involved. Authorities said the juveniles were turned over to their parents.

The Sheriff’s Office reminded residents that all-terrain vehicles and side-by-sides can pose serious safety risks when operated on public roadways or through residential neighborhoods.

As students prepare to return to school, the Sheriff’s Office is encouraging parents and guardians to talk with their children about making responsible decisions, respecting other people’s property and staying safe.
