Atlanta Pair Jailed After Monroe County Deputies Seize More Than 9 Pounds of Ecstasy During Traffic Stop

MONROE COUNTY, Ga. – Two Atlanta residents are facing felony drug trafficking charges after deputies discovered more than nine pounds of suspected ecstasy and a handgun during a traffic stop on Interstate 75.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped a vehicle Tuesday, July 21, near the 190-mile marker on southbound Interstate 75 after the driver was clocked traveling 86 mph in a 70 mph zone.

During the traffic stop, deputies searched the vehicle and recovered more than nine pounds of suspected ecstasy along with a handgun.

The driver, identified as Marquisia Sutton of Atlanta, and passenger Deconta M. Daniels of Atlanta were both arrested and charged with trafficking ecstasy.

Investigators said Sutton was also charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of or attempt to commit a felony. Authorities additionally charged her with driving without a valid driver’s license.

Daniels faces additional charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of or attempt to commit a felony, and open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Both suspects were booked into the Monroe County Jail, where they are being held without bond.
