Man Arrested After Armed Carjacking Attempt at Forsyth County Gas Station
FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A 23-year-old man has been arrested after authorities say he attempted to carjack a driver at gunpoint and fired a shot during the encounter at a gas station Wednesday morning.
According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and officers with the Johns Creek Police Department responded at approximately 8:15 a.m. on July 8 to the Valero gas station at the intersection of McGinnis Ferry Road and Old Atlanta Road following a report of an armed robbery.
Investigators said the victim was standing at the gas pumps when 23-year-old Khalil Burgess allegedly approached from behind and attempted to steal the victim’s vehicle.
During the confrontation, Burgess allegedly produced a firearm and fired at the victim. Authorities said the victim was not struck and was not injured.
After the attempted carjacking, Burgess fled the scene.
Deputies and detectives immediately canvassed the area and quickly developed information leading them to a residence in the St. Marlo community, where Burgess was taken into custody without incident.
Burgess has been charged with:
- Armed Robbery
- Motor Vehicle Hijacking
- Aggravated Assault
The investigation remains ongoing.
