Body Found in Wooded Homeless Encampment Under Investigation in Bibb County

BIBB COUNTY, Ga. — The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a deceased person was discovered Sunday night in a wooded area off Houston Road.

According to authorities, the call came into the Macon Bibb E-911 Center at approximately 10:45 p.m. on May 10, 2026.

Officials said the body was found south of Houston Road inside a homeless encampment located in the woods in the 5200 block of Houston Road.

Patrol deputies responded to the area and located a deceased person inside what appeared to be a shed being used as shelter, according to investigators.

The sheriff’s office Criminal Investigation Division responded to process the scene and begin the investigation. Authorities said the body was recovered, but investigators have not yet determined the identity of the deceased person or how long the body had been in the area.

According to Coroner Leon Jones, the body will be transported to the GBI Crime Lab for examination and identification.

The investigation remains ongoing.
