Milledgeville Babysitter Charged After Infant Suffers Multiple Broken Bones

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — A Milledgeville woman has been arrested and charged after investigators say a 4-month-old child suffered multiple injuries while in her care.

27-year-old Sara Ellen Smith was arrested and charged with cruelty to children in the first degree, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The case began February 23, 2026, when the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office requested GBI assistance in an investigation involving an infant with multiple injuries.

According to investigators, Smith was babysitting a friend’s 4-month-old child in February when she allegedly caused multiple injuries to the baby, including several broken bones.

Smith is being held in the Baldwin County Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing.
