12-Year-Old Killed in South Atlanta Shooting, 14-Year-Old Charged With Murder
ATLANTA, Ga. — A 12-year-old boy has died after being shot inside a South Atlanta home, and a 14-year-old has been charged in connection with the case, police said.
Officers responded around 1:49 p.m. on April 11, 2026, to a reported shooting at a residence in the 1800 block of Lathrop Street SE. When officers arrived, they found the 12-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound.
The child was transported to a hospital in critical condition but was later pronounced dead despite lifesaving efforts.
Preliminary information indicates the shooting occurred inside the residence. Investigators began interviewing both juveniles and adults who were present at the time of the incident.
During the investigation, detectives identified a suspect and determined the individual was a 14-year-old juvenile.
On April 12, homicide detectives obtained an arrest warrant, located the teen, and took him into custody without incident. He has been charged with murder and was transported to the Metro Youth Detention Center.
The investigation remains ongoing.
