Gwinnett County Teen Takeover Leads to Injury, Nine Arrests

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A planned “teen takeover” gathering in Gwinnett County resulted in one injury and nine arrests, according to police.

Authorities said officers were notified ahead of time about the March 28 event, described as a large gathering of teenagers and young adults organized through social media. Due to concerns about potential disorderly behavior, police increased their presence and deployed additional resources to the location.

Despite those precautions, the gathering led to an incident in which one teen was injured. Police arrested nine individuals, including two adults and seven juveniles. Charges include Obstruction, Affray, Disorderly Conduct, and Criminal Trespass after some attendees reportedly refused to leave when ordered.

During the event, officers also received a report that a juvenile had retrieved a firearm from a trash can and placed it in his waistband. Police located the 16-year-old, who fled but was quickly taken into custody. The juvenile told officers he had thrown the weapon onto the roof of a nearby business. Investigators later recovered the item and determined it was an airsoft gun.

Police noted that while a large number of people attended the gathering, many were not involved in criminal activity. However, officials said the actions of a small group led to the arrests and injury, underscoring how quickly such events can escalate.

Gwinnett County Police are urging parents to speak with their children about the risks associated with large, unsupervised gatherings organized online and to stay informed about their whereabouts and activities.

Officials said their goal remains to work with the community to maintain safety and prevent incidents like this from escalating.
