Ground Broken on Pleasant Hill Landing Affordable Housing Development in Macon
MACON, Ga. — Construction is underway on a new affordable housing development in Macon’s Pleasant Hill neighborhood following a groundbreaking ceremony held March 24, 2026.
Macon-Bibb County, the Macon Housing Authority, Affordable Housing Fund, Sheridan Construction, and other partners marked the start of the Pleasant Hill Landing project, which will bring new multi-family housing to 151 Madison Street.
“This is an investment in people, in neighborhood revitalization, and in the future of Pleasant Hill,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “We’re proud to partner on a project that will bring quality, affordable housing and new life to this community.”
The development will feature three three-story residential buildings offering one-, two-, and three-bedroom units. The housing will be income-restricted under federal guidelines while also supporting a mixed-income environment.
Officials said the project is part of a broader effort to strengthen neighborhoods and expand access to affordable housing.
“This is about building community,” said Neighborhood Programs Coordinator Jerry Battle. “When you invest in housing, you’re also investing in families, stability, and the long-term success of the neighborhood.”
Macon Housing Authority CEO Mike Austin emphasized the growing need for affordable housing.
“Our goal is to make really good affordable housing for people who need it,” Austin said. “The demand for affordable housing… is at an all-time high.”
The development is being built on the former site of Macon Charter Academy, a property that had remained vacant for nearly eight years and had become a safety concern for the area.
Pleasant Hill Landing, LP, a nonprofit affiliate of In-Fill Housing II, LLC and the Macon Housing Authority, is leading the project.
Funding includes a mix of private financing, the Macon-Bibb County Affordable Housing Fund, and county support, reflecting a collaborative effort to expand housing opportunities.
Construction is expected to be completed by spring 2027.
