DAWSON COUNTY, Ga. — A man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting earlier this week has been taken into custody out of state, according to the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities announced that 56-year-old Roy “JoJo” Holloway was arrested in Davidson County, North Carolina, after being on the run since a shooting on March 24, 2026, along Highway 136.

Deputies said the victim, identified as 38-year-old Justin Thompson of Dawsonville, knew Holloway. The incident has deeply impacted the local community, officials said.

Investigators credited a coordinated, multi-agency effort for locating and apprehending Holloway. The operation involved local deputies, investigators, dispatchers, the Warrants Unit, and law enforcement partners across state lines, as well as federal agencies.

“We’re grateful to share that, through the hard work and dedication of many, Roy ‘JoJo’ Holloway has been taken into custody,” Sheriff Jeff Johnson said. “I’ve seen firsthand our office and our partners across the Southeast put in long hours, lose sleep, and give everything they had to bring justice in this case.”

Authorities also confirmed that Ariel Decarli, who had been missing, has been located, treated for injuries, and reunited with family.

Officials said they hope these developments provide some measure of relief to the victim’s loved ones as the case moves forward.
