Teen Killed After Co-Suspect Fires Gun During Assault Attempt in Albany

ALBANY, Ga. — A 19-year-old man was shot and killed Wednesday night after being struck by gunfire during an attempted assault, according to Albany police.

Officers responded around 8:12 p.m. on March 25, 2026, to the 800 block of West Highland Avenue, where they found Jontae Harris suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigation revealed Harris and another suspect, identified as Jerrod Igles, attempted to assault a man. During the altercation, Igles was armed with a firearm. Police said Igles discharged the weapon, striking Harris.

Investigators identified Igles as the shooter and took him into custody without incident. Authorities said Igles told investigators he did not intend to shoot Harris.

Igles was transported to the Dougherty County Jail and charged with felony murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm. Police said additional charges may be filed.
