Coweta County Deputy Seriously Injured After Patrol Car Struck on I-85

NEWNAN, Georgia – A Coweta County deputy was seriously injured Sunday after a patrol vehicle was struck during a traffic stop along Interstate 85.

The incident occurred on March 22nd, at the 49-mile marker on I-85 South while the deputy was conducting a traffic stop.

Authorities said another vehicle crashed into the patrol unit during the stop. The deputy sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he is currently listed in stable condition.

At the time of the crash, an individual who had already been taken into custody was seated in the back of the patrol vehicle. That person was also transported to a hospital with what appear to be minor injuries.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the patrol car declined medical treatment at the scene.

The Georgia State Patrol has been called in to investigate the crash. Officials said any additional details will be released as the investigation continues.
