Student Arrested After Social Media Threat At Newton College And Career Academy
COVINGTON, Georgia – A 15-year-old student has been arrested following an investigation into a social media threat made toward another student at a Newton County school.
On Tuesday, March 17, 2026, around noon, investigators with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division took the juvenile into custody at the Newton College and Career Academy.
Authorities said the arrest followed an investigation into a threat made online. The case was conducted with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
The juvenile has been charged with terroristic threats and acts, as well as interfering with school operations. The case will be handled through the juvenile court system.
Sheriff Ezell Brown said threats against students, staff, or schools will be taken seriously and addressed accordingly.
He also urged students to be mindful of their actions and words, both in person and online.
The Newton County Sheriff’s Office said it continues to work closely with the Newton County School System to ensure a safe environment and encourages the public to report any suspicious activity.
