One dead, Two Critically Wounded in Athens Parking Lot Shooting

UPDATE: An arrest has been made in this shooting. 22-year-old Mark Desousa of Jefferson was taken into custody and charged with Malice Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Aggravated Battery. The two victims are still seeking medical care and remain in critical condition. The ACCPD acknowledged the help received from the GBI, District Attorney’s Office, Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, FBI Safe Streets, FBI Atlanta Field Division, and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

ATHENS, Ga. — One person was killed and two others were critically injured during a shooting early Saturday morning in Athens, according to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department (ACCPD).

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 2:20 a.m. on March 14, 2026, in the parking lot of the 400 block of North Jackson Street, near the the Robert G. Stevens Federal Building.

During the investigation, police determined that three individuals had been shot during the incident.

Authorities identified the deceased victim as Clayton Adams, 22, of Hull, Georgia. Adams was pronounced dead following the shooting.

The two other victims were transported to a local hospital, where they remain in critical condition, according to police.

Investigators say the case remains active and ongoing as detectives work to determine what led to the shooting and identify any potential suspects.
